While we all want to look our best, using dirty beauty tools is NOT the way to go!
.
Tweezers, an essential part of any person’s beauty tool collection, are extremely helpful at plucking unwanted hairs. Knowing how to properly disinfect and maintain your tweezers will not only promote good hygiene, it will make them last a lot longer too. Not taking the necessary steps of cleaning your beauty tools can lead to the harbouring of unwanted bacteria and germs. That's something you REALLY want to avoid.

Choosing the Right Tweezers

High quality products really influence the method for how to sterilize beauty tools at home. Good precision tweezers made of stainless steel, (like these from ArteStile), make a huge difference in the cleaning process. The best tweezers are fully stainless steel, as it is an easy material to sanitize for long-term maintenance.
.
NOTE: Tweezers should be cleaned before and after each use.

Rubbing Alcohol vs Hydrogen Peroxide

Rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide are both common household cleaners, effective at killing germs, viruses, or bacteria from surfaces. Rubbing alcohol, or isopropanol alcohol, is an extremely powerful germicide, fast at cleaning most surfaces. It is highly effective and takes much less time to clean compared to hydrogen peroxide.
.
Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent, as opposed to an alcohol, like isopropanol. Hydrogen peroxide is an amazing disinfectant and a great disinfectant for beauty tools. If using hydrogen peroxide, make sure to wipe your tools dry and let them fully air dry before using them or storing them away.
.
Overall, both are great options at helping to stop cross contamination and to ensure your tweezers are properly sanitized!

Cleaning Your Tools At Home

For personal, at-home use, we recommend sanitizing the tips/ blades with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol before and after each use. Once they are sanitized, you can wipe them dry with a clean towel and let them air dry before storing them away.
We also recommend keeping the tip protectors on your tweezers between uses to keep them clean and in their best condition.

With Paint vs. No Paint

..
If you use colourful tweezers, chemical cleaners, like rubbing alcohol, can make the paint chip away over time. This is why we recommend that you only dip the tip of the tweezer into a chemical cleaner & wipe down the handle with a paper towel or cotton pad soaked in the cleaner. Always make sure you let your tweezers completely dry before storing them away.
.
If you own a pair of unpainted stainless steel tweezers, you can sanitize the whole tweezer easier. This is why brow professionals love our Classic Tweezers (shop here) as they come in brushed stainless steel, letting you sanitize them repeatedly much faster. You can dip your entire tweezer into a solution of disinfectant and wipe dry, without having to worry about the paint.
